The objective of this praoject is to contribute to the fundamental knowledge and technologies required for the development of high-performance intelligent storage systems and to the advancement of the infrastructure for scientific research. The focus is on the development of a scalable system geared toward the needs of analytical computing in data grid environments. The approach is based on certain principles of organizing and accessing multi-dimensional data on the storage, whose pursuit requires a higher-degree knowledge about the data. Keys to the realization of the project are the advances in the areas of indexing and clustering data in multi-dimensional feature spaces. To achieve high performance and scalability, the developed retrieval and clustering techniques build on the properties of new space-partitioning schemes. The project also deals with related practical problems, such as retrieving data with missing values.
